READ ALL OF CHAPTER 5!!!!
Please watch the following video http://www.c-spanvideo.org/program/SenateSession5040
After watching the video please describe a day in Senate, how it is set up, Compare House of Reps Video to Senate, what the Senate chamber looks like, and who is speaking.
A day in Senate starts off the same as the House of Representatives with a prayer which is led by Douglas Gerdts. Then the pledge of allegiance is done .Then they start talking about the senate from Delaware and welcoming him to the chamber. The Senate divides the time between the democrats and the republicans, whereas in the House of Representatives the speaker are given a minute to speak to talk. Mitch McConnell speaks of all the work that there is to be done such as the debt that country is in. Then father in to the session Ronald Johnson speaks how we had increased our debt by $2 trillion. The senator chamber look much smaller than the House Of Rep.
ReplyDeleteA day in the senate is really boring but is pretty much like the one in the House of Representatives, the senators from each state goes to the senate and meet in the senate to discuss about bills. The senate is set up with the speaker in the top row with the other senators listening to the speaker and facing him. The house of Representatives video was different from the senate video because they discussed bills and bills they wanted to pass but it had a different set up. The senate chamber looks smaller to me than the house of representatives, and pretty much every senator that represents their sate is speaking also the speaker.
ReplyDeleteThe Senate chamber looks similar to the House of Representatives. The Vice President wasn't there so the President por Tempore ran the show. Similar to the representatives at the HOR, various Senators were given an opportunity to speak. However, these Senators were granted more time to speak compared to the representatives who only had one minute to speak. Perhaps this is because there aren't as many Senators as there are Representatives. For example, Sen. Joe Manchin from West Virginia gave a ten minute speech about federal spending. Moreover, I think that there is a stronger divide between republicans and democrats, or at least a more pronounced separation between the two parties in the senate versus the house. Republicans were given the opportunity to speak first, and the democrats were given there opportunity later on.
ReplyDeleteSenate seems like the House of Represenitives but there are less people and they dont sit in a triangle. the President Tempore was the director of the show in senate since vice president biden wasent present.I found it weird that they called the president tempore MR PRESIDENT, like Obama was there. than both majority leaders on the Democrat and Republican side spoke about how they feel about the various bills. they took many breaks during this meeting.
ReplyDeleteA day in the Senate is very much different than the H.O.R. (no pun intended.) Some similarities include a chaplain conducting a prayer in the beginning, a clerk that reads the proposed bills, the senators opening statements about their community or the nation, and a leader in the Senate. One difference was the amount of time that the senators were given for their opening statement. Another major difference was the overall chamber outlook because it smaller compared to the H.O.R. chamber (again no pun intended.) I was also surprised when Senator Rob Portman from Ohio presented his diagram on his economic plans and views.
ReplyDeleteA day in Senate is long and seemingly just as boring as a day in the House of Reps, except the senators seemed a little more laid back than the congressional representatives. They started like our SEPH homerooms did, with a prayer and the pledge.
ReplyDeleteThe Senate room is shaped kind of like a circle/triangle form. Pretty much everyone was speaking. And a lot of people were walking around..
A day in Senate seems to be as monotonous as a day in the HoR. Various senators are given a chance to speak on different topics that they're working on, although the speeches are split between the two parties involved. Some senators discussed our debt crisis and how to try and resolve it. There's an obvious split between the two parties, more so than with the HoR, which can be considered good or bad depending on your views.
ReplyDeleteAfter watching the video, a day in Senate is similar to a day in the House of Representatives. The meeting starts with a prayer and a pledge similar to the House of Representatives. It is set up similar to the HOR in which the leader conducts the meeting. The vice president was absent, so the President Pro Tempore took his place and led the meeting. However, Senate is different than the HOR in which Senators are allotted more time to speak than Representatives. The Senate chamber has a circular seating arrangement unlike the HOR.
ReplyDeleteIn this video Majority leader spoke first being that the Vice president wasn't there. Then followed by the majority leader was the minority leader and so on and so fourth. It is not extremely different from house of reps being that they go in a certain order of leaders. I still don't understand why in this video about senate they're talking about religion and have an opening prayer as well which doesn't differ from house of reps. I thought it was interesting how senator Lamar Alexander initially spoke about attitudes towards spending instead of bills. Senate wasn't as boring and seemed more pro-active instead of re-active in whats going on in the economy.
ReplyDeleteThe similarities between the house of reps and senate were that they had the same format in discussing their ideas and that had payed and said the pledge. Some speakers who were spoke was the Chaplin, President pro tempore,Christopher Coon, Henry Reid etc. The chamber was really big with a lot of people standing and walking around with blue curtain and walls.
ReplyDeleteA day in the senate is like a day in the house of representatives. They do their prayers, and then the pledge of allegiance. The chamber seems to be smaller than the one in the house of representatives. The republicans and democrats spoke, and the senator of each state was the speaker in the senate.
ReplyDeleteAfter watching this boring video, a day in senate is almost like a day in the House of Reps. There is less people in the Senate than the House of Reps. They start with prayers and the pledge like the H.O.R. does. The Vice President was not present so the President Tempore was the head of Senate that day.
ReplyDeleteJust like the House of Representatives, a day in the Senate starts off with a prayer and then the Pledge of Allegiance. The senate is usually led by the Vice President, but since he was absent, the President Pro Tempore took his place and led the meeting., The senate divides their time between Democrats and Republicans. You could tell that there is definitely a separation between the two parties. Senators are given a chance to speak and discuss different bills. The senate chamber appeared smaller than the one for the House of Representatives.
ReplyDeleteI think both sessions are similar because they are boring. It starts off with a prayer and pledge of allegiance. Democrats and Republicans are split up while talking, two sided and more divided, where you do not see that in the House of Reps. There is a replacement for the leader of the session much like the House of Reps, the replacement for vice president is president pro tempore. there is more time to speak in this session. The senators talk about some issues and bills and voting. Majority and minority leaders speak. John Mccain of Arizona spoke about national security and the defense authorization bill. The chamber looks similar with two pillars and an American flag. It is smaller with less chair and it looks like a round triangle chart and only two tiers. They mentioned the farm bill and also the debt and how to fix our spending.
ReplyDeleteI believe that both are similar. Both start out with a prayer and the pledge of allegiance. The senate is led by the VP normally, but he was no there so it was controlled by the Pro Tempore. Both parties, Democrats and Republicans have their own time to talk. The senators discuss different bills and they get voted on. the mentioned how to fix our debt and i think that is a major issue.
ReplyDeleteThis video started out with a prayer. Then they say the pledge. The senates go up and talk about bills. Senates from different parties voice their their opinions. They mentioned the debt that we are in and how to fix. I skipped through this video because it was boring and 6 hours and 38 minutes "ain't nobody got time for that".
ReplyDeleteBoth the House of Representatives and the Senate are similar. Both begin with a prayer and then both say the pledge of allegiance. Then They both go on to talk about bills and their different parties tell their opinions on a political matter.
ReplyDeleteBoth the House of Representatives session and the Senate session start out with a prayer and then the pledge of allegiance and then go into representatives presenting their issues. The set up of the rooms are different. In the house of representatives it's sort of a pyramid set up with the speaker of the house at the top, in the senate it's a set up of desks and it's closer together. I think the senate session is slightly longer as well.
