HOMEWORK #1 - PLEASE SEARCH GOOGLE FOR THE NEW COLORADO MARIJUANA LAW- LIST THE DETAILS OF THE LAW AND PLEASE EXPLAIN HOW THE FEDERAL LAW WILL AFFECT THE LAW....
The Colorado Marijuana Law allows people to obtain and legally smoke marijuana without going to jail or getting it taken away from them. People in Colorado cannot smoke marijuana in the streets or in public and cities and counties will be able to block marijuana retailers. Coloradans are accustomed to having this stuff above ground, supervised by state authorities and having it regulated. Coloradans, 21 and over, are allowed to buy up to an ounce of marijuana and can grow up to six marijuana plants. Colorado will make a lot of money once the law goes into effect, and the marijuana is taxed. The federal government views marijuana as a Schedule I prohibited substance and has cracked down on states, like California and Montana, that have voted to allow medical marijuana. Colorado will soon be the most legally relaxed state in the country, lol.
ReplyDeleteColorado has legalized the distribution and consumption of marijuana outside of a medical use. The people of Colorado can buy and sell marijuana without running the risk of going to jail as long as people aren't smoking it in the streets. Officials will be able to stop the distribution of marijuana in certain stores if they deem it to be going against the law. The marijuana will be taxed, therefore Colorado will be making money on the substance. The government however still has not even made a law stating medical marijuana is legal, so Colorado will probably get some type of rules enforced by the government just like California and Montana.
ReplyDeleteAs of election night the legalization of marijuana was enforced in Colorado. You have to be 21 to buy it. It will only be available in certain stores not on the streets. know information regarding the price of it yet. One thing good about this is that the marijuana is taxable and the state of Colorado will profit from it. Many people suffering from diseases can now smoke marijuana legally in Colorado. Though it is legal in the state of Colorado the federal government considers it illegal.
ReplyDeleteOn Tuesday voters in Colorado and Washington State had made it legal to smoke pot recreationally, without the need for presciption or medical excuse. It will take a month before this measure will be official in the books and it will take even longer before the state can make it an officially writes the rules and tax codes and other regulations in order to create new state licensed retail marijuana shops. As for the federal goverment which still views marijuana as a schedule and prohibited substance and has cracked down on states, like California and Montana which have voted to allow medical marijuana.
ReplyDeleteSince marijuana was made legal in Colorado, the question is will there be a lawsuit with the Department of Justice or the Drug Enforcement Agency. The Department of Justice can easily say the the Federal law overrides any state laws. I suppose the real problem (or perhaps the solution depending on your views) comes in when all these other states start slacking in the enforcement of and punishment concerning marijuana. Maybe the federal government is scared to approach the topic for the fear of an entire population having an uproar.
ReplyDeleteI understand that Marijuana helps some conditions in late stages of a disease to alleviate pain and suffering. Since the state of Colorado decided to legalize the drug, this opens a wide range of views that can be brought to the surface like having other states also legalizing the drug, lawsuits from other states as to why this is not a good idea, or having the government be called to the table to take a stand one way or another about this legalization being written in the Constitution. Many opionins exist pro and con against its legalization which can explode like abortion stances.
ReplyDeleteThe Colorado Marijuana Legalization Amendment allows a person twenty one years or older to consume or have only limited amounts of marijuana. The state would provide facilities for the production and sale of marijuana. The state would also tax the substance which increases its revenue. I think that the state would make a lot more money and it promised to spend some of the revenue on the public school system. Crime would increase because just like liquor stores these marijuana facilities would get robbed every time. Federal law makers would probably test this new state law for a year or two and they would decide whether they should pull the plug on it or not. I think the closest relationship with marijuana is alcohol or maybe it might take a different route like smoking tobacco. Soon they would be saying "Don't smoke and drive." Now Denver is truly the "Mile High City." (knee slapper)
ReplyDeleteI agree with you and that was a good joke.
DeleteThank you for your candor.
DeleteThe Law now makes it legal for individuals above the age of 21 to legally purchase Marijuana in the state of Colorado. The state would provide certain places for the buying and selling of Marijuana, instead of on the streets. Federal laws are suppose to over ride any state law, so the legalities of this state law are still questionable. I myself do not smoke, but it's just a plant and natural right? I don't see the harm unless the substance is being tampered with or modified from it's original version.
ReplyDeleteUnder the new Colorado marijuana law, individuals above 21 years of age can legally purchase up to an ounce of marijuana in the state of Colorado. They amendment would also allow people to grow up to six plants in a private, secure area. Marijuana will be taxed, and, according to analysts, is said to increase revenue from 5-22 million dollars. If passed, Colorado may face troubles with U.S. Justice Department and the Drug Enforcement Administration, who consider pot an illegal drug. The Federal law states that marijuana is illegal so it is still uncertain whether or not the law will become active.
ReplyDeleteThe bew Marijuana law in Colorado allows people to smoke and buy Marijuana in Colorado, without the risk of getting in trouble as long as it is not done in public. You are at most allowed an ounce of marijuana only if you are 21 and above. The state is allowed to regulate retail sales. You are also allowed to own marijuana plants as long as it's not in public. It will be taxed so that the state of Colorado will make money. How long this law will last is still in question, because it is still illegal in the federal law, It is still illegal in most of the United States.
ReplyDeleteColorado's new law lets people above 21 purchase and "use" (for lack of knowing a better term) marijuana. Private marijuana plants are permitted (but ONLY private plants).
ReplyDeleteThe law might not last because federal government banned marijuana, and federal law overrules state law.
Colorado made a new law that legalize weed or marijuana whatever floats your boat. It always people to smoke weed and also grow private weed plants. I feel like people will be high all day long. Since it will be tax Colorado will make money off it and it will be a new vacation spot for potheads. People will be smoking 2 joints before they smoke 2 joints and then they will smoke 2 more. Crime will increase because people will be robbing stores that sell. Also pathmark, keyfood, BJs and more will run out of the munchies and then you will have a pothead riot on your hands. Then Costco won't be able to keep the cost low on their products (that rhymes).
ReplyDeleteNice job. You might be the next Eddie Murphy or Jay-z
Deletevoters saw little harm with regulating marijuana similarly to the way alcohol is. Colorado’s marijuana law passed with 54 percent support, and Washington’s with 55 percent. Colorado and Washington law for adults 21 years and older to possess up to an ounce of marijuana. In Colorado, people will be able to grow as many as six plants. In Washington, users will have to buy their marijuana from state-licensed providers. if you have over 1 ounce you get a fine of 100$. if you have 2-6 ounces you could be served jail time or fined up to 1,000$. you could not get arrested for having it. it is not legal to smoke it in public places. They estimate that taxing marijuana will bring in millions of dollars of new revenue for governments, and will save court systems and police departments additional millions. pot taxes could bring in hundreds of millions of dollars a year, but the sales won't start until state officials make rules to govern the legal weed industry.
ReplyDeleteThe Colorado marijuana law allows those over 21 years of age to possess marijuana as long as it is under one ounce (28.5 grams). It is legal to consume in private residence, not in public. It is legal to sell marijuana in Colorado stores as long as the store has a permit to do so. However, under federal law there is no currently accepted use for marijuana, both medically and recreationally, so this will overrule the Colorado law and marijuana use will still be prohibited.
ReplyDeleteIn Colorado a new law was enacted for the regulation of marijuana. It allows someone twenty-one years old or older to consume or possess limited amounts of marijuana. It also regulates the licensing of cultivation facilities, manufacturing facilities, testing facilities, and retail stores. The law permits the local governments to regulate or prohibit such facilities. The new law requires a tax to be applied on the wholesale sale of marijuana. The Colorado law conflicts with the federal law already in place about marijuana. The federal law does not allow people to use or possess marijuana.
ReplyDeleteThe Amendment 64 known as the Colorado Marijuana Legalization Amendment on the November 6, 2012 ballot in Colorado as an initiated constitutional amendment and it was approved. The law makes it legal for adults 21 years and older to possess up to an ounce of pot and people can grow up to six plants, and it allow the state to regulate retail sales of the drug. The usage of weed still remains against federal law. Colorado's Attorney General isn't sure how federal authorities will react to people coming in from out-of-state to buy marijuana.
ReplyDeleteThe Colorado Legalization of Marijuana, or the 64th amendment, was put to a ballot on 11/6/12. It was initiated as a constitutional amendment and was approved through the voting process. But this unfortunately does not apply to anyone. You have to be 21 years of age or older. You can also only possess up to an ounce and are allowed to grow up to six marijuana plants. But it is illegal to enter the state of Colorado to purchase marijuana if they are out of state.
ReplyDeleteA Colorado Marijuana Legalization Amendment, also known as Amendment 64, was on the 6th of November 2013, in Colorado as an initiated constitutional amendment where it was approved. The measure legalized marijuana in the state. People in Colorado cannot smoke marijuana in the streets or in public and cities and counties will be able to block marijuana retailers. One thing good about this is that marijuana is now being taxed therefore making Colorado a profit and income from this new law / amendment. I believe that this new law could bring a lot of worries to the people though in Colorado and might encourage people to smoke marijuana that have never done it before.
ReplyDeleteColorado made a new law that legalize marijuana. It doesn't need to be for medical use only. People can buy and smoke marijuana
ReplyDeletewith no risk of going to jail. The only thing is that they can't smoke it outside in public and it will only be sold in stores. Marijuana Will be taxed so that means the state of Colorado will profit from it. Even though marijuana is now legal in Colorado the federal government still considers it illegal.
Citizens of Colorado and Washington have voted to make marijuana legal in the state of Colorado. It has become the 64th amendment to Colorado's constitution but, it is still illegal under the federal government. Any Coloradan the age of 21 or older is allowed to buy and/or possess one ounce of marijuana. In some stores, it will be sold and there will be a tax on it. However, they are not allowed to smoke it in public areas.
ReplyDeleteColorado made a new law to legalize marijuana. marijuana doesn't have to be used for medical reasons, it can also be used for recreational use in limited amounts. A good thing about Colorado legalizing marijuana is that the marijuana is taxed which will help the economy of Colorado. The federal government still considers weed illegal.
ReplyDeleteThe new law in colorado that has to deal with having weed for recreational peurposes and not only for medical purposes would bring more money to help out schools and the government instead of having the money wasted by puttin g people who sold illegally in jail. Marijuna is still illegal in most of the states in the United States even though its legalin colorado.
