2. Read the following article and comment on the article in the area below.

1. A bill becomes a law by first being voted on approval by the House of Representatives. If the bill is approved by the House of Representatives then the Senate must vote for approval. If the House of Representatives and the Senate ( Congress) vote for approval then the bill is presented to the President for his/her signature. Finally if the President signs the bill then it becomes a law.
ReplyDelete2. The article did mention that Thomas Jefferson was the father of the six children of Sally Hemings. It was pretty obvious because she was described as light skin and two of her children could have passed for being white. Thank God for modern scientific and technological advancements such as DNA to help us figure out one of America's historical mysteries.
1. After being approved by committee on Capitol Hill, a bill is then passed on to the House of Representatives. Then it is sent to the Senate for approval. Finally, it reaches the President, and if he or she does't veto it, then it becomes a law.
ReplyDelete2. Usually I roll my eyes at conspiracies, but I found this article to be pretty interesting. What I like about this article is that it gives facts rather than abstract accusations. For example, it mentioned DNA tests that were done to prove the connection between the descendants of the Hemings and of the Jeffersons. Also, it mentioned Sally Heming's light skin and beauty. However, it didn't bluntly state that because of this there must have been a love affair. It gave facts, and from that we can draw our own conclusions. Overall, I thought the article was interesting.
1. After being approved by Congress to become a bill, a bill then has to be approved by a committee at Capital Hill. The bill is then passed on to the House of Representatives for voting. It then goes to the Senate for approval and if approved it's up to the President to decide if the bill should become a law or not.
ReplyDelete2. I completely believe that Thomas Jefferson was the father of Sally Hemings six children. They were light skinned, obviously a result of her relationship with Jefferson and her own light tone. He even offered the illegitimate children freedom from slavery, which is an odd thing to do if he didn't have some sort of attachment to them. I just find it entertaining to know that Sally was serving his wife all that time and she had no clue. It just goes to show that even back then, political representatives were shady regarding their private lives.
1. A Bill is written by Congressmen agreeing to the terms and then if they think it has a chance to be a law it is sent to Capital Hill which is House of Representatives and if approved then goes to the Senate. If aproved there it goes to the President and he either approves it as a law or he can veto and if vetoed the bill will start all over again.
ReplyDelete2. This article came as a surprise to me about Jefferson and the Hemings. With the facts, that I was unaware of, it is a surprise to me that Hemings kids are connected to Jefferson. The facts have been found out in modern day using DNA evidence to reveal the truth about the past. Although it does shed light on the facts that myself and others were probbly unawere of and this good article is a good source of information.
1) A bill becomes a law when congress agree on the addressed bill and then it it voted into the president, if the president doesn't wanna make the bill a law he can simply veto it, congress can also veto a bill.
ReplyDelete2) Only modern technology can prove whether Thomas Jefferson was really the father of the children of Sally Hemings. Only a DNA testing can prove 100% whether Jefferson was really the father. Back then their wasn't much evidence to prove if he was or wasn't.
A bill becomes a law after an idea goes through the local congressman. After congress votes on the bill and if they say yes, the president gives his opinion. The president can say yes and sign, or he can say no and "veto" the bill. Fortunately for that specific bill he got signed :3 (cheer).
ReplyDeleteWho knows if Sally Hemings is really Jefferson’s mistress? Only if we had had modern technology back when, we probably could tell whether or not they really had offspring together. I actually don’t see that as a bad thing. The article says she was relatively light-skinned.
1.First a bill starts as ab idea which then it need to go to congress to be written as a bill, a bill then has to be approved by a committee at capital hill. the bill is then passed on to the House of Representatives for voting. If they vite yes it goes on to become a law, while if they vote no it goes away. It then goes to the Senate for approval and if approved its then goes to the president to decide if the bill would go through to become a law or not.
ReplyDelete2. I was not surprised from this article for at that time many of the slaveries whether they were men or women would become the so called mistress or lovers of their masters.
1. A bill becomes a law when it is first disused by congressmen than it goes to the house of representatives and they vote on the bill. If they vote yes the bill goes to the senate if they approve it the bill wants in line with all of the other bills waiting for the presidents signature. If the president dosent like the bill he has the power to veto the bill.
ReplyDelete2. Lets not be naive Thomas Jefferson was the father of Sally hemmings 6 children. This is later proven by DNA testing. Thomas Jefferson conveniently let sally hemings 6 slave children free coincidence or not? Also it is very scandalous because the whole time the affair was going on Thomas Jefferson's wife Martha was in-contact with sally and sally served her so they had to always been talking awkward!
1. In order for a bill to become a law it has to be first voted for approval by the House of Representatives. Once approved it goes to the Senate so they can vote for approval and if they approve it then the bill goes to the President and when the President signs the bill it then becomes a law.
ReplyDelete2. After reading the article I really think that Thomas Jefferson was the father because it wasn't really uncommon for slave owners to have affairs with slaves back then.
1. A bill is written by a Congressman that agrees to the terms, then it waits to be approved by committee on Capitol Hill, then a bill is passed on to the House of Representatives, after that it is sent to the Senate to be approved. Finally, it reaches the President and if he does not veto's it then it is law.
ReplyDelete2. after reading the article about Sally Hemings and Thomas Jefferson, I do think Jefferson was the father of Sally Hemings children, it was proven by DNA tests and during that time, it was common that slave owners slept with their slaves.
1) A bill is written by a Congressman. For that bill to become a law, it has to be voted for by the House of Representatives. Then if they agree to make it a law, it is sent to the Senate who does the same thing. Then this bill is sent to the president who signs the bill and then it finally becomes a law.
ReplyDelete2) After reading the article, I do believe that Jefferson was the father because back then I'm sure many slaves owners had slept with their slaves. And the fact that he let his slaves kids all go free, made it suspicious.
1. once a bill is written, is has to be approved on capital hill. If it's approved, it gets passed on to the house of representatives. Then it it sent to the Senate, and if the president agrees, it becomes a law. Otherwise he can veto it.
ReplyDelete2. I believe that technically, because she had light skin herself, they don't necessarily have to be Jefferson's kids. But because she worked in the house and he did grant the kid's freedom, it becomes pretty fishy and i started to lean towards the side that found Jefferson guilty of being the father. The article was interesting because it stated facts and and it makes you think even if you have never considered this before.
First, a bill is a thought or idea, then it goes to the congress which is then sent to the house of representatives, which if voted yes, the bill is sent to the senate. If the bill gets past the senate, the bill is sent to the president, and he can either pass the bill as a law, or veto the bill.
ReplyDeleteThe article gave me enough facts to prove that Jefferson was the father to Sally Hemings's children. The article was very interesting, and it showed me how some of the slaves were treated by their owners.
1. A bill starts out as a idea from the people. The they send it to a congressman and if he agrees he writes it out and send it to congress. Then the house of rep have to ok it and the senate have to ok it.Then the president can decide to approve it or veto it.
ReplyDelete2. I honestly do think that Thomas Jefferson was the father of Sally Hemings kids because DNA test proved that he was and slave owners would often have affairs with their slaves.
1. The bill waits in committee while the congressmen debate whether or not it should be a law. Once they agree that it should be a law, the bill then goes to the House of Representatives and they vote on it. If it passes the House of Representatives it then goes to the senate and they vote and if it passes the senate it goes to the white house for the President to sign. If the President signs it then it is a law.
ReplyDelete2.I believe that Jefferson was the father, because based on the article they spent a lot of time together and DNA testing is proof.
Congress creates an idea, it then becomes a bill. Congress then must decide if they should propose bill to House of reps during a committee meeting which takes place on capital hill. If the bill is voted favorably by congress it is brought to House of reps to then be voted on again. Thus if they approve it is brought to senate to be voted on. Finally if it is approved for a third time, it is brought to the president to be signed where it becomes a law. Any branch may veto this bill if they do not agree to make it a law.
ReplyDeleteThe article about Sally Hemings I found to be extremely interesting. I find it strange how people slept with their slaves considering that slaves at the time were seen as "low" and unworthy of anything in life. I believe that Jefferson is the father of Heming's children due to the extensive DNA testing, and tracing of the Jefferson and Hemings blood line from those six children. I believe Hemings saw this as an opportunity to escape her position as a slave and gain some sort of freedom.
1)A bill, written by congressmen, becomes a law by being sent to Capitol Hill. The committee and congressmen debate if the bill is going to become a law. If they agree on the bill, the bill gets sent to the House of Representatives. If the representatives vote yes, then the bill is sent to the Senate. If the Senators vote yes, then the bill is sent to the White House. To become a law, the President must sign the bill. If the President veto’s the bill, then the bill is sent to Congress to vote again.
ReplyDelete2)I found the article on Sally Hemings interesting. The article stated that she supposedly had six children with Thomas Jefferson. Her children had a light skin complexion and were freed from slavery from Thomas Jefferson. I think that these are valid statements to provide indication of the children’s father, but I like that the article also gives factual information such as the DNA evidence.
1. A bill becomes a law by first going through Congress. If Congress votes to pass the bill as a law, the House of Representatives has to vote, then it goes to the White House for the president to sign and it becomes a law. If any branch votes no, then the whole process starts over.
ReplyDelete2. I think it's interesting that historians looked into this and put facts together to figure out that Thomas Jefferson's slave Sally Hemings had his children. They had the same light skinned tone and the DNA tests showed the relation. It's also interesting thats facts like this can be found out so many years later because technology is so advanced now.
After the comitee at Capitol Hill approves of a bill, it is sent to Congress. Congress debates on if it should or should not become a law then, send it to the President if it should. The President decides to either sign the bill to become a law or veto it. If it vetoed then the process starts all over again.
ReplyDeleteIt is very interesting that historians were able to put all this information together. Surprisingly Sally Heming had SIX children by Thomas Jefferson and they were all freed from slavery. I like the fact that the DNA tests showed the relation.
a bill comes from an idea then this bill is introduced by a member of the senate, in the senate it gets its first reading later is send to senate committee where committee reports bill to members of the senate, then it gets it second reading, where they debate the bill and vote, after the third reading its gets its final debate and vote, if the bill is passed then its sent to the second chamber where the process repeats, if house and bill differs the bills goes to conference committee, if the bill is passed the bill may get sing into a law or vetoed by the governor.
ReplyDeleteI believed that Thomas Jefferson was the father of the six children of Sally Heming’s because all of them light skin and Sally Heming’s was known for being a slave with beauty and light skin color. Also scientist made DNAs to prove that these facts were real in which they are so Im really surprise that Thomas Jefferson had an affair with a slave.
I don't believe that Thomas Jefferson was the father of Sally hemming children because there is no DNA testing that prices that he's the father. Even though Thomas Jefferson may of had an affair with her doesn't means that het six children belong to him.
ReplyDeleteA bill is have to go through congress but can be veto by the president and he can also sign off in it
1. A bill starts out as an idea, from people or representatives. Then it needs the support of other representatives, in hope to get the idea out. It is introduced, than it goes to the commitee to check and read the bill. The senate and house vote on it, than it is passed to the president, the president can put it through or not.It can also be denied from
ReplyDelete2. I do think that Thomas Jefferson was the father of these six children. By the way that he cared and let them free. It is interesting that she used Thomas Jefferson to sort of free herself and help herself and her children, dna tests would show this. Like they say love is blinding, and it was to Thomas Jefferson, because he did not care if she was a slave.Plus he didnt show that type of care to any other children, so i do believe those were his kids.
1. For a bill to become a law, it is sent to Capitol Hill. There, the House of Representatives will vote on sending it further or not. After that, the Senate must approve of the bill. When the bill reaches the president, the president can decide to pass it as a law , or if not, he has the right to veto it.
ReplyDelete2. I found it very interesting that there was somewhat proof that Thomas Jefferson was the father of Sally Hemmings' children. It may have been unusual that a slave owner would have an affair with their slave, but that doesn't mean it couldn't of happened. I do believe that Thomas Jefferson could have been the father of Sally Hemmings children. Nobody knows but there could have been several other slave owners that may have had affairs with their slaves.
1. The bill starts on capitol hill, then is sent to the House of Representatives, then goes to the president where he either passes the bill or vetos it.
ReplyDelete2. I think its sick that Thomas Jefferson did what he did. It just shows that politicians have always been the same and enjoy the perks of their job.
1. The process of a bill becoming a law starts with it becoming an idea first, then congress introduces it as a bill. Congressmen sit and debate about weather it should be a law or not, it then gets sent to house of representative which then gets sent to the white house for president to sign.
ReplyDelete2. After reading this article it was kind of shocking in way that even after Sally had Thomas Jefferson, she still didn't get freed from slavery.
