  1. I knew that Parliament played a major role in the government over in the UK, but I didnt' realize that the Queen has pretty much nothing to do with political polices there. Throughout both videos the Queen wasn't even mentioned. I was somewhat curious about this, and so I decided to do a little research. Apparently, no Queen or king is allowed to enter the House of Commons which is where the first video takes place. It is the speaker and the two political parties that run the show, and the Queen has little to do with any of it. As a matter of fact, the first video reminded me of the political campaigns here in America in that both parties were criticizing each other and attacking opposing points of view.

  2. How the two houses of Parliament discuss an issue shows how each one looks at their own point of view. The debate is not structured with a lot of arguing at each other going on at the same time, making a civilized rebuttal difficult. Like our Congress each memeber can take a turn in the disucssion, Parliment the people just call out making it difficult to sometimes hear the true point of view.

  3. The videos of parliament reminded me a little about the debates between the democratic and republican party. The only difference that i can see is that the way parliament settled their discussion by everyone arguing their views at the same time. To me it is not structures like how the democratic and republican have their discussions. But I realize that they have alot of the same views as well.

  4. They definitely do things differently in Britain. First of all in the first video the conservatives were laughing yes laughing at the Democrats on the opposing side; something we don't see in congress. When the conservatives wanted to keep 1 billion pounds or dollars to the 3,000 richest people in Britain they thought they were the only ones who had a say in parliament. The meeting were differently NOT structured and there was a lot of back and forth auguring going on.Even though they do things differently in Britain they still have some of the same issues that we fight about in America like taxes and health care.

  5. I thought that the videos of Parliament were similar to debates in Congress. In video one it was a little more wild and fun because people got up to cheer and laugh. In video two the Parliament members were a little more subtle and boring.

  6. The videos show that the parliament is similar to congress, but at the same time different. In congress each party is at their own convention and they talk about what there beliefs are and what their candidate is going to do and why they should be elected. Here its one big mess of arguing back and forth. But, even though things are done very differently here and there, they both serve the same purpose. They are addressing problems within the country.

  7. The videos do show that their debates are sort of like ours between the Democractic and Republican party except we dont go as far as to laugh and cheer at our opponents. I was shocked to see the Royal family had no part in this, or government mostly. The Queen having very little politcal power was shocking to me, it's like shes there just for show.

  8. As I was veiwing these videos I realized that in someway their debates are almost like us where each party as an opportunity to express their point of view known. However, the setting is different for example people are able to shout out loud while the speaker is speaking, even laugh out loud as a group which making it difficult for the individuals to really hear the information.

  9. It's quite certain that the Queen has no power for a reason. These people debate and speak well, they are similar to us in that they debate with each other over issues they believe in. They seem to have at least two sides as well. The only difference I see is that they're way less tense. When members of our political parties speak, the air is always thick and everyone is walking on egg shells. If anything we're more ridiculous, because we insult the other party and then get offended when they insult us. In Parliament, people are laughing and shouting, the issues are still important but they all know there's a need to laugh just to make sure it's not so tense in there. They don't need to insult and degrade each other the whole time to get their point across. The people are allowed to be who they want and shout out without being looked at as rude. They also speak very eloquently, making sure their views are shown while still keeping it lighthearted.

  10. I think the videos show that the British Parliament is very similar to our democratic and republican debates except that they are extremely impolite, laughing and interrupting the speaker. They seem to have many of the same issues that we have regarding taxes and health care. I didn't understand very much of what they said because of their accents, but that is what I was able to make out from what I could understand.

  11. I found it funny how the conservatives were laughing at the democrats. I also find it a bit strange that the queen was not even mentioned, when you would think that she had so much to do with Great Britain. Unlike our debates, the British seem to debate in a funnier, more impolite way, as compared to our old boring way. Honestly, I had absolutely no idea what they were talking about because, I know nothing about British politics. However, what I do know, is that overall, the British are very funny, and they possibly have the coolest accents in the world, in my opinion.

  12. After watching the videos, they did show that they debates are similar to the debates we have between the Republicans and Democrats. Both sides had the opportunity to express their point of views, but i was shocked about how loud they were. The queen has very little to no power.

  13. First off I thought these debates were hilarious. In the first videos the guy arguing with the prime minister was cracking jokes and his supporters were laughing really loud. They also showed little respect for the prime minister when he was speaking. This shows the the prime minister has a lot of power and he goes through a lot of criticism.

  14. The debate was disorganized. People were loud, boo-ing, and made jokes toward one another. They often interrupted one another and were disrespectful. After watching the videos, I realized that the Queen has little say in the government. The Queen is basically just a figurehead.

  15. British Parliament is different than the US government because they are actually debating with each other, instead of having separate conferences. Also, in the first video, the people are laughing and rowdy and in the US people cheer, but the crowd doesn't get like that. The queen doesn't really have much to do with the politics, which is odd.

  16. The videos of parliament are somewhat like the debates between the democratic and republican party here. However, there are a couple differences. The way parliament settled their discussion by everyone arguing their views at the same time. It is not structured as the democratic and republican party have their discussions. Also, the opponents do not crack jokes to have everyone jeer at their opponent.

  17. The British parliament seems to be a lot less serious in their debates than we are in the American congress. I think that because of this the British are able to get their point across better than we can because it is less boring to me.

  18. There was absolutely no order during the British Parliment debates. The way that they were acting seemed like they were going to argue more than getting things done. Compared to American debates, these were more lively. I feel like if the Parliment wanted to get a point across, they could've done things differently and in a more civilized manner.

  19. The debate was not as organized as our debates, there yell and laugh at each other where bere in the US we are more civil with our mudslinging. I liked hese debates more because they are definetly more entertaining. I was always under the impression the the queen had power over England and I was shocked to learn that she has little to no power.

  20. The British parliament debates I found to be interesting. The British officials seem to feel very passionate about health care issues and budget cuts just as Americans do, but have no regard for others when speaking and sharing issues. They do not let each other speak without comments or noises and its actually disrespectful at times. Most have the impression that the English are very pristine and this video totally defies all stereo types. Through the video if they do not seem to agree with a comment or argument they are not afraid to express how they feel which can also be a good thing. They do not bottle up anything, and are extremely open about their opinions on politics.

  21. These British parliament debates were complete and utter chaos. During the debate they were yelling at each other and laughing back and forth like they were at a baseball game which was pretty funny. At times I felt like they did not care about what was going on because of such behavior. Maybe doing it this way kept them interested in what was going on. However I did find it very disrespectful and annoying, when someone would take long to complete a sentence and share their thoughts because of the constant interruption. Just because they act in this manner, It does not mean that they do not care I guess. They just have a different way of showing it. They still get things done, it just takes longer. It was definitely a new approach compared to others like the US.

  22. The debates are so unorganized. No one is really "in charge" and no one cares when someone screams "ORDER!!!" It's one thing when they have no leadership; it's another thing when no one listens anyway. Granted, the debate was interesting, but it took an eternity to get to the point. A good bit of the video was composed of laughing and cheering. ACtually come to think about it, I don't even remember the result of the debate because of all the distractions.

The only comment i could possibly have the the joking about France... "BURN!!!!!" All in all, I kind of agree with what they were saying, even though it wasn't necessarily appropriate.

  23. As I was watching these two videos it really made me think of the way Americans discuss politics. We Americans don’t make fun of our opponents, first because it’s disrespectful especially when you running for president and second of all because they like to take things seriously so people don’t think they are fooling around and thinking everything is a joke. But as I was watching the discussion between speakers Gordon and Cameron I found it really funny because they actually do have a sense of humor and people in the crowd would cheer for them. At the same time I thought it was unorganized because the judge kept saying “order” every minute and no one really listen to him, and I think that as speakers that represent their country, they are old enough to know that behavior like that people sometimes take it personal.

  24. After watching both of the videos the British Parliament is way different from American congress. Its less organized debates compared to the US. The British Parliament you can express your self more freely , such as them booing each other or cheering while someone is talking. I did find it interesting that they did discuss some similar things which probably would have been brought up in a congress meeting such as healthcare.
