1. As the founding fathers created a new government following the American Revolution, the 13 colonies became known as "states". Based on what we discussed in class today why were they now called states and not colonies or 13 Nations or 13 Nation States?
2. James Madison wanted to prevent "factions" or special interest groups as stated on page 15. Do you believe that special interest groups would hinder the development of the United States and would the present day "Tea Party" be considered a faction in your opinion? why?
PLEASE ANSWER BELOW
1. The declaration of independence saw the changes the colonies were going through, which included being subject to no more higher authority. The colonies saw themselves as states instead of colonies.
ReplyDelete2. I dont believe special interest groups would hinder our government. If anything, it would make our country move along faster. I dont see how the teaparty fits into the question...
If the people could actually do something, get together and request political interests, the government would have to listen.
1. Colonies was from the British, and with the American Revolution were broke away from Britian. We therefore wanted a new start. We were only a few states and had yet to expand to one nation.
ReplyDelete2. Special interest groups would change the development of the United States because it would attempt to persuade people to think one way, only making only some people benefit from the faction while others can be hurt. The "Tea Party" looks at the political views from only one side even though the other party may have good ideas as well.
1. As the founding fathers created a new government fallowing the American Revolution the 13 colonies became know as "states" rather than Colonies. I think this was so because, after writing the Declaration of Independence colonist felt a sense of ownership toward their country calling it the "United States of America".
ReplyDelete2. No I do not think that special interest groups would hinder the development of the United States. We have special interest groups today and people are always going to have different views on life and theres still fighting in politics and confusion. The Tea Party would be considered a faction to me because, those people in the tea party have different views and believe in different things that the Democratic Party; also another example in my opinion of a faction would be the KKK.
1. Following the American Revolution the 13 colonies became known as states because the founding fathers did not want to revert to a monarchy. They wanted to show complete independence from Great Britain.
ReplyDelete2. Interests groups would not hinder the development of America because every person may fit into one group with the same ideas. Interest groups to me are like small political parties. The "Tea Party" is a great example of an interest group in America. They all share a common ideas of how America should be run.
1. After the American Revolution, the founding fathers wanted to create a government in which they had their own independence as one country that is not under Great Britian's rule.
ReplyDelete2. No I do not think interests groups would hinder the development of the United States because there are interest groups today and people are not going to always agree on the same thing. People are always going to have different views on life and how the government should be.
1.The 13 colonies is now considered states because the founding fathers wanted to declare there independence from great Britian, resulting in us becoming the United States of America.
ReplyDelete2. I don't think special interest groups would hinder the development of the United States because every political party has there own set of interests weather its democratic, republican or the tea party. in my opinion, I don't think the present day tea party would be considered a faction unless of course the democratic and the republicans would also be considered factions, because they all have there own special interests.
1. I think the 13 colonies did not keep the name of colonies because it was assigned to them under British leadership. Since they wanted to make it clear they were independent, they changed their name to the states.
ReplyDelete2. Interest groups do not hinder the development of the United States, i think they actually unite the US and bring more people together with one voice of the interest group member's opinions. I don't believe the Tea Party would be considered a faction, just because they are another political party just like Democrats or Republicans. If they were considered a faction, so would any other group.
1) After the American Revolution, the founding fathers chose to create a new government, instead of being known as the 13 colonies they chose to call them "states". This is because they wanted to break from Great Britain and show their independence and freedom.
ReplyDelete2) No i do not think that special interest groups would hinder the development of the United States of America because special interest groups are still involved in today's society and government and everyone has different beliefs and ideas. The Tea Party to my opinion is a faction because they only have one point of view of things.
1. When the thirteen colonies got their freedom from the British they saw themselves with more opportunities to have more freedom in their lives but at the same time they knew that the colonies will need a new government so the people wouldn’t get out of control or gain too much power in their hands.
ReplyDelete2.I don’t believe that special interest groups would hinder the development of the United States because I think it would make our country richer and not have budget problems plus people have different views of life. The tea party will be consider a faction to me because they all have different ideas of how the country should be run.
1. The 13 colonies became known as "states" and not colonies after the American Revolution because colonies are owned by another nation. After the colonies broke away from their mother country, they now have their own government, population, territory, and sovereignty. These factors make them their own individual states, but not individual nations. Those first 13 states were all under one nation; they were smaller portions of one country.
ReplyDelete2. Special interest groups probably delay the development of the United States. People will express their opinions with or without these interest groups, and have a right to do so. Having these factions leads to more arguments than solutions, and more chaos than organization. Also, yes, I do consider the Tea Party a faction because it is in fact another organized group to argue with on the spectrum.
1. After the American revolution, America declared their independence from Great Britain by writing the Declaration of Independence. The 13 colonies became known as states because there was going to be a new start with different control.
ReplyDelete2. I do not think that interest groups would hinder the development of the United States because we all do not agree on the same thing. Interest groups would want to solve a difficulty, not cause one. For example, those in the " tea party" have different opinion than those in the democratic party.
1. It is now called states and not colonies or nation because a state identifies a political community that occupies a definite territory and has an organized government with the power to make and enforce laws with out the approval of any higher authority. A nation is a common group of people who are united by common bonds of race, language, customs, and traditions.
ReplyDelete2. Special intrest groups might hinder the development of the United states. Famers believed the government should operate in the interest of all people, not favoring any group or person. But the present day "Tea party" wouldn't be a fraction because it was around then and still around today
1. As the founding fathers created a new government following the American Revolution, the 13 colonies became known as "states" rather than colonies or 13 nations is because the founding fathers had wanted independence from the British colonies and based on the information we spoke about in class a nation is a group of people who are united by common bonds of race, language, customs, traditions, and religion. Whereas states have an organized government with the power to make and enforce laws without the approval from any higher authority.
ReplyDelete2 No I do not think that interests groups would hinder the development of the United States because each person has their own right to their opinions. Yes the Tea Party would be conceder part of the faction however there is also the republic party and the Democratic Party.
1) The actual of definition of the word "state" means to declare something. After America was conquered by British rule they had to declare their independence as a country. In 1776 once the declaration of independence was created these 13 colonies were set free from British rule, thus declaring themselves as states.
ReplyDelete2)I do not believe that special interest groups would hinder the development because it is inevitable to have different opinions for different political causes. We are not all suppose to think and feel the same way. Special interest groups working towards different causes can only help our development, unless these groups are working against the better good of this country. The Tea Party could possibly be considered a faction because they all share the same beliefs and passion towards conservatism. But yet again if the Tea party is considered a faction, then the Liberals would also be considered a faction as well.

ReplyDelete) The 13 colonies became known as "states" by declaring their independence. They were no longer controlled by the British and each colony wanted their own population, territory, sovereignty, and government to have the power to make and enforce laws without approval from any higher authority.
ReplyDelete2) I don't think that special interest groups would hinder the United States because people are always going to have their own opinions and views. In my opinion, the present day "Tea Party" would not be considered a faction because they have their own views just as the other political parties have.
1. They were called states and not nations because they shared a central government. They were not called colonies because they were no longer part of England.
ReplyDelete2. I don't believe that special interest groups would hinder the development of the United States. The "Tea Party" is a faction in my opinion because they are just a small part of the republican party.
1) The thirteen colonies became states and were not called colonies. This was because after the American Revolution, the colonies wanted to be independent and in order for that to happen, they had to become states instead of colonies. This allowed them to do independent things, whereas a nation would involve them doing things together as one, in the same way.
ReplyDelete2) I do not think that Special Interest Groups would hinder the development of the United States because, many people come up with different ideas and not everyone can share or use the same opinion as or with others. I believe that the present day Tea Party is considered a faction because, they all share the same beliefs, which would make the Liberal Party, Republican Party, and the Democratic Party a faction, in my opinion.
1. The 13 colonies became the 13 states because they had a strong central government that they answered to. The state governments were somewhat weaker and therefore they could only be considered a state. To be a nation they needed to each have a strong central government of their own, so in that case each colony would have their own government which would create chaos.
ReplyDelete2. "Special interest groups" slightly hinder the growth of the United States. The reason being is that they put people into different groups and therefore those people feel that they are obligated to abide by the rules of those groups, or at least that's how it used to be. In today's world we occasionally see a Tea Party Republican voting for a liberal Democrat because they have freedom to do so, unlike how it was long ago. I do believe that the "Tea Party" is in fact a faction. Members of the tea party have their own set of beliefs and so they are not different than any other faction out there. If anything it's just another part of the Republican side, like how we have moderate and liberal Democrats/Republicans, the Tea Party is another area on the spectrum of factions.
1) The word states is used instead of nation or nation states because a nation is joined by common languages, customs, religions or tradition. A state is a political community that has authority make and enforce laws without approval from higher authority and occupies a definite territory.
ReplyDelete2) I believe special interest groups would hinder the development of the United States because they are people who are willing to bribe and corrupt the the government and sacrifice the general welfare. The government is supposed to promote interests of all people, not that of a certain group. The Tea Party is working towards beneficial things to the country, I would not consider the Tea Party a special interest group. They don't want the government telling them what to do, I feel thats different than the idea of a special interest group.
1. After the American Revolution America gain independence from britsh reign and the 13 colonies wanted to be referred as states because they wanted to establish a government that would enforce the law.
ReplyDelete2. I dont think that special interest groups would hinder the development of the United States because each person has their beliefs and opinions. Not everybody has to think the same ways
1.They were now called 13 states because they were now united by one government even though each state had different rules.
ReplyDelete2.No i don't think interest groups would hinder the development of the United States because people have different opinions. I do not consider the tea party a faction because they have their own views.
1) The 13 colonies are now known as the 13 states because they are all part of one government, but they also have their own laws and rules that other states do not have to follow.
ReplyDelete2) The tea party is for sure a faction. It is the exact definiton of what a faction is. The Tea Party is a smaller group that exists within a larger group.
1)Following the American Revolution a new government was created by the founding fathers they were know known as the states previously known as the 13 colonies, they wanted to be original, and let it be known that they were independent and free.
ReplyDelete2) I do not think that special interest groups would hault the development of the U.S., because they are still relevant today. Everyone has different ideas and opinions which help even out the playing field and give a view from both sides. I believe The Tea Party is a faction because they only see things from one perspective and can be biased to things that they believe in.
1) The 13 colonies became states instead of colonies because they under the control of Great Britain or any other country anymore. They weren't a nation because the 13 states are not filled with same descendent of people, culture.
ReplyDelete2) I don't think that special interest groups would hinder the U.S because these groups may have the same similar ideas just like the government. Yes the Tea party would be a faction because they have the own rues that they wish the government would follow and their own views on politics.
1) The 13 colonies were not called colonies any more because they were no longer ruled by the British. Also, they were now united under a government with different rules.
ReplyDelete2)Special interest groups would not hinder the development of the United States because people have different views and thoughts on ideas. I would not consider the "Tea Party" a faction because they are apart of the Republican group and a faction supposed to be a unit. If the "Tea Party" did not agree with the other Republicans and went on with their group than it would not be united.
